AP leads way with all-formats coverage of Hurricane Idalia

Terry Spencer, James Pollard, John Raoux, Chris O’Meara, Jeff Martin, Isabella O’Malley, Curt Anderson, Mike Schneider, David Fischer and Jeffrey Collins provided excellent breaking and in-depth news coverage of Hurricane Idalia and the aftermath with unique video, compelling photos and textured stories of the storm. They took the audience to “Old Florida” in the Big Bend of Florida. Video journalist Laura Bargfeld, photographer Rebecca Blackwell, video journalist Daniel Kozin and photographer Chris O’Meara provided text in addition to their own formats. Blackwell captured the aftermath on the ground and via drone. AP’s coverage went beyond breaking news. Martin and O’Malley provided a unique look at how a phenomenon known as an “eyewall replacement” lessened Idalia’s intensity. Anderson produced two popular sidebars — one looking at Florida’s “Forgotten Coast” and the other examining how Tampa once again escaped a direct hit.
